“A Visual Travel Journaling beyond Your Camera” - Sunday, April 12, 2-3.30 pm
Come and enjoy a special tea in the gallery and be inspired by local artist, Karen La Du and designer Joseph Macaya. Hear their story about “PillowTalk: LA to NJ” and learn to take your own travel memories to a higher level. Stay in touch with your adventures without staying behind your phone or camera! Take a photo or two but more importantly, spend time with your travel companions. Bring along a sketchbook or a scrapbook. We will talk about methods for artists and non-artists alike to make a personal record of their travels that they will cherish for years to come. Remember the old saying: A picture is worth 1,000 words. Those things that you create with your own hand remain closer to your heart and mind than those things recorded electronically. Come with an open mind and a notebook if you like; the artists will have many examples and lots of stories to tell. $22 - prepaid only (includes presentation, Japanese Tea & Sushi Deluxe, tax & gratuity). Teach Begins with Tea – Thursday, April 16th 7-9 pm.Join us for the very first gathering of ‘Teach Begins with Tea’, a monthly education-focused discussion group hosted by Tony Muccio at the White House in Oakhurst. The mission is to encourage conversation over tea in an open forum setting. We will be screening the documentary Race to Nowhere with light refreshments and discussion to follow. Race to Nowhere follows the stories of students across the country dealing with over-scheduling, over-testing, and relentless pressure to succeed. Through the testimony of educators, parents, and education experts, it reveals an education system in which cheating is common, students are disengaged, stress-related illness is rampant, and young people graduate unprepared and uninspired. Admission $5 with RSVP to; $8 at the door (space permitting). You can also follow the discussion group on Twitter at @TeachWithTea for group updates, and education resources and news. We hope you can join us! Remember, teach begins with tea! (Save the date: next meeting, May 14th, 7-9 pm).
